About Us

Humanitarian Research Partners (HRP) is a non-profit human rights and humanitarian research organization that provides specialised human rights research and advocacy in Australia. Our goal is to hold government accountable for human rights violations against refugees and asylum seekers. We don't have premises or other overheads, and our staff and volunteers are spread throughout Australia and the world. To keep up to date with HRP's latest activities, have a look at our blog or follow us on facebook and twitter. HRP also has an instapaper, The Refugee Rights & Politics Daily.

HRP has two branches: Human Rights Law and Advocacy, and Strategic Policy Analysis. Both branches conduct monitoring and analysis of the human rights of refugees and asylum seekers living in the Australian community, as well as those in onshore and offshore immigration detention facilities. For more information on our current projects, please contact our team.

HRP volunteers provide human rights-based policy papers and reports that are submitted to Government Ministers, Parliamentary Committees and their Inquiries, United Nations Special Procedures mandate holders and UN Treaty Bodies. HRP also works in partnership with international research institutions, human rights alliances and NGOs to advocate for the humane treatment of asylum seekers that are under Australia's effective authority. By this, HRP aims to hold the Australian Government to account to its international legal obligations under the International Bill of Human Rights and Australia's various treaty commitments.

HRP is made of independent professionals, social media advocates, thinkers, idealists and more. We work together to undertake research and help compile reports on human rights abuses against refugees and asylum seekers on their journey to Australia. HRP is about to launch a new human rights self check-in service for asylum seekers heading to Australia that will produce unprecedented levels of information to advocates and aid agencies to reach more effective solutions.

HRP is always looking for volunteers with expertise in asylum seeker policy, human rights, international law, development and related fields to help us advocate for the protection of human rights of vulnerable groups in Australia. If you are interested in helping out, please contact us.
